Overview

LutraCAD turns your designs into machine-ready files for both milling machines and 3D printers. This page covers which machines and materials you can use. For step-by-step setup, see the printer setup guides and 3D Printing.

3D printers

Any 3D printer can be used with LutraCAD: the software exports the print files your printer needs. The printers below are ones we have tested and recommend for each product.

tip

This is only the range of printers we supply ourselves. LutraCAD works with many more. For the full list of supported printers, check the 3D Printer page in the software itself (Settings3D Printer, see 3D Printing), or contact our sales or support team.

LutraCAD automatically slices your 3D print files, so they are production-ready without a separate slicing step. To connect a network printer, see 3D Printing.

LutraCAD materials

LutraCAD has its own range of medical-grade filaments, each matched to a product type.

The filament range

  • Flexon: Medical-grade TPU for accommodative insoles and midsoles, in two hardness grades (85A softer, 93A firmer).
  • Nimbus: Foaming TPU with the feel of EVA. Soft, lightweight cushioning for accommodative insoles and midsoles.
  • Nimbus HS: The high-speed version of Nimbus, for higher production volumes.
  • Fortex: Tough, stiff material for hard-shell insoles and AFOs that need maximum support and durability.
  • Carboris: Carbon-fibre reinforced, for maximum stiffness and support that holds its shape under load.
  • Titanis: Durable with controlled flexibility, for functional orthoses such as AFOs and hand splints, and rigid shell insoles.
  • Arboris: Wood-filled filament for producing shoe lasts in-house within a day. Print solid for a ready-to-use last, or print as a shell and fill it.
  • Glacion: Transparent filament for foil test shoes, so you can check the fit before producing the final last.

Milling machines

LutraCAD generates toolpaths for a range of milling machines. Supported brands include ISEL, Tormach, and Hurco, among others.

Compatibility

LutraCAD generates G-code by default and can work with any milling machine that accepts one of these file formats. The milling table's File extension setting offers .gcode, .iso, .nc, .pim, .cnc, and .ncp.

If the extension your machine needs is not in the list, send us one of your milling files and we will check whether we can generate it.
